What Is the Difference Between AGV And AMR?

Oct 18, 2022

AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) have a long history of application and are now widely used in warehousing, logistics, material handling and manufacturing industries.

AMR (Automated Mobile Robot) differs from AGV, it can use software to map the interior of a factory or import drawings of factory buildings in advance to achieve navigation. This function is equivalent to a car with GPS and a set of pre-installed maps. Once the car is set up with people's residence and work addresses, it can generate the easiest route based on the map's location. Of course, the powerful features make its higher than the first one, but AMR claims to require no in-plant modifications, so the overall cost may not be much higher.

The difference between AMR and AGV is that the former has powerful computing power, which can sense the surrounding environment through sensors and make corresponding decisions, while the latter is just a large actuator, whose every move is dependent on the central control system's scheduling.

RoboCT is an expert in omnidirectional mobile robot, serving and providing corresponding AGV or AMR chassis to worldwide customers, covering intra-logisctics, research, agriculture, smart factory, construction and other fields. Mecanum wheeled omni robot moves freely in all directions. You can fully utilize its sideways movement and 360 degree rotation even in defined space, so you can have more space for your production.
